Chapter 1 — Arjuna's Grief
On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Arjuna sees his relatives and teachers on both sides and is overwhelmed with grief. He lays down his bow, refusing to fight. This sets the stage for Krishna's divine teaching.
सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि — My limbs fail and my mouth becomes parched. I am unable to stand and my mind seems to whirl.

Chapter 2 — The Eternal Soul
Krishna begins His teaching by revealing the eternal nature of the soul. The Atman is never born and never dies. This chapter is the essence of the entire Gita and contains the famous verse on karma yoga.
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः — Weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it.

Chapter 3 — The Path of Action
Krishna teaches that one must act according to their dharma without attachment to results. Action performed as a offering to God, without desire for reward, is the highest karma yoga — the yoga of selfless action.
